Improving Posture from the Ground Up

Woman on floor doing Feldenkrais lesson

Ankles, knees, hips and shoulders are the four major pairs of joints we use in all of our movements. Improve the movement in any one of these pairs, and everything gets better.

Week 1 will address the ankles. Strong and agile ankles not only help us walk better, but they also make a difference in how we sit. And lately we’ve all been sitting way too much.

Week 2 focuses on the knees. This movement lesson will bring attention to easier ways to move the knees—easier to bend and unbend, easier to stand and walk, maybe even run.

Week 3 arrives at the hips. The hips are the locus of some of the biggest and strongest muscles in our bodies. Learning to move with ease in these joints creates an incredible sense of power and strength.

Week 4 brings us to the shoulders. Guess what! You don’t have to pull your shoulders back to improve your posture. This week’s lesson will help you discover new freedom in the shoulders, and that creates so much more ease in the neck, arms and hands. You’ll find yourself feeling taller, lighter and more relaxed.

This four-week series of lessons allows for a deeper dive in an online, small-group setting. Each session will include an Awareness Through Movement® lesson as well as a more detailed look at the key ingredients of the lesson, how to apply them to your daily activities, and tips for continuing to improve your moves.
