Description

Happy Feet! Boxed up in shoes for way too long, could your feet use a little TLC?feet

Join Gika Rector for this Awareness Through Movement® workshop and move with strength and grace. Beginning with gentle, guided movements you’ll find more strength and power in your feet and legs than you might have thought possible.

It seems counterintuitive in our hard-working culture that the easy way might be better, but in this case it really works. As a black belt in Judo, an athlete and a scientist, Moshe Feldenkrais (founder of the Feldenkrais Method®) understood how to develop strength, efficiency and elegance in human movement.

Awareness Through Movement® lessons help you slow down and notice how your body gets things done. Bringing mindfulness to your movements, you will build strength, greater range of motion, and better balance. As Feldenkrais said, you will “Make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy graceful.”

Classes are suitable for almost all fitness levels. Willingness to lie on the floor, and an interest in moving more easily are really about all you need.

Fee

$15

Awareness Through Movement® Series at A Healing Collective

Date and time

Four Wednesdays
April 8–29
6–7 p.m.

Description

Join Gika Rector for this 4-week series of Awareness Through Movement® lessons exploring the relationship of the feet to the carriage of the head.

Often ignored and neglected until they cry out for attention, the feet have a profound impact on the simplest of movements. With 3 separate arches and 26 bones in each foot, the complexity of how human beings get support from the ground up is amazing. But because we box up our feet in shoes and walk on flat surfaces all day long, we lose the range of motion and proprioceptive information that can make human movement so beautiful. As we remind ourselves of these possibilities, we can once again hold our heads lightly at the top of the spine and move with greater confidence and ease.

Based on the work of Moshe Feldenkrais, Awareness Through Movement® lessons, help you slow down and notice how your body gets things done. Bringing mindfulness to your movements, you will build strength, greater range of motion and better balance. As Feldenkrais said, you will “Make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy graceful.”
